ADVERT FOR PUPILLAGE

Introduction

BMS Solicitors are pleased to announce that it has one vacancy for pupillage commencing in January 2021.

The pupillage will be Criminal based pupillage.

About Us

BMS Solicitors is a community-based law firm based in Northern Circuit Manchester dealing with a number of traditional as well as specialist areas of law. In particular, we offer services in Litigation Civil and Criminal. We have a team of highly experienced practitioners including Solicitors, Barristers, Paralegals, and Administrative Support and regularly appear before the Courts and Tribunals.

What We Are Looking For

Essentially, all candidates should have a minimum degree classification of a lower second class degree (2:2) in Law (or any other subject area provided this is supplemented with the relevant law conversion course). We shall also be looking for proven legal work experience which is not necessarily limited to mini-pupillages alone. The following broad criteria is what we are looking for in our prospective pupil.

In summary, these are:

Intellectual Ability
Proven aptitude in oral advocacy
Personal and professional skills required of a Barrister

How to Apply

Candidates are required to submit a cover letter of no more than 2 single A4 pages along with an up-to-date CV of no more than 4 single A4 pages detailing how they meet the requirements of this role in accordance with this advert and the pupillage policy document on this page. It is a matter for candidates to decide what to include within their application.

Deadline and Timescale

The full application must be received by us by 5.00pm on Friday 18th December 2020. Applications received after this time will not be processed and will not be considered any further.

The committee will convene shortly after 18th December 2020, and prospective candidates will be contacted on or around 4th January 2021 inviting them for an interview. Interviews will take place on or around same week via video link.

N.B. In light of The Coronavirus, and as guided by The Bar Standards Board, all interviews / assessments will be conducted remotely via video conferencing / telephone. Candidates should therefore ensure they have access to a computer / smartphone on the day of the interview / assessment. Candidates will be required to be flexible around the interview / assessments.

Pupillage Award our pupillage award for pupillage commencing January 2021 will be £20,000 per annum. Pupils will be paid this salary over 12 equal payments to ensure that their financial position remains consistence. BMS solicitors want to ensure that all pupils are comfortable and able to fully concentrate on their training, without the worry of financial matter.
